One could argue that the early failure of the Trump administration to pass key legislation to replace Obamacare - a central platform in his election campaign - was a blow to his legitimacy. The president would suggest that confirming Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court - to a seat that had lain empty for a year - was itself a considerable achievement and possibly with more lasting consequences. Like most things in politics, it depended on your point of view. The first 100-day hallmark of a presidency has become a journalistic tradition where the success or failure of an administration is judged based on what they were able to accomplish when their political power is at its highest. The idea dates back to Franklin D. Roosevelt, who couldn’t wait around to kickstart the failing economy and launched his New Deal with 15 bills in 100 days. Ever since then, we’ve looked at this period to try and gauge how a president is doing, perhaps sometimes unfairly. As a foreign correspondent working in the United States, I’ve now covered six presidential elections from Bill Clinton, through George W. Bush to Barack Obama and now Donald Trump for two British newspapers, the Daily Mail and the London Evening Standard. Never has there been this much interest around the world, for better and for worse, than in the unfolding story of the Donald Trump presidency. And this was just in the first three months of a four-year term. As John F. Kennedy said in his inaugural address, his agenda would “not be finished in the first 100 days. Nor will it be finished in the first 1,000 days, nor in the life of this administration … but let us begin.” In this book, I’ve included my almost daily stories on the Trump presidency for the London Evening Standard alongside the president’s tweets. Together, they show just how unpredictable those first 100 days were. History will get an opportunity to take a contextual judgement on just how successful or unsuccessful President Trump turns out. Republicans like to argue that Ronald Reagan was similarly ridiculed when he first came into office, only to become one of the most revered of Republican presidents. This book doesn’t pretend to be the considered history of Trump’s presidency or even of his early days in the White House, but it is a fascinating snapshot of a period in politics when literally anything could happen at any time. And like it or not, we were all along for the ride.

As an author, David Gardner, easily captures the imagination of his readers and effortlessly succeeds in covering all aspects of Donald Trump's early life and his extraordinary journey to the Whitehouse.
You don't need to be a follower of Donald Trump to find this book a fascinating read. Indeed,you may even begin to understand Donald Trump a little more and, because of the skill of the author, perhaps even begin to feel some admiration for this giant of a man.
David Gardner has brilliantly encapsulated all the relevant facts surrounding the 45th American President which has made the reading of his book thoroughly enjoyable. I highly recommend this book.
